Feburary 3rd 1994

Outside of his professional work, Pat is happiest outdoors. He is an avid fly fisherman and camper with a particular love for cowboy camping and the pioneer spirit of cast-iron and Dutch-oven cooking over an open fire. A former chef, his love of food never really left him. He enjoys cooking for people, a good cigar, and the kind of long conversation that usually comes with both.

Pat has lived a lot of life, and he readily admits that experience has shaped him every bit as much as his formal education. Sober since 1994, he has traveled extensively, built businesses, started over more than once, and developed a genuine curiosity about people and the complicated roads they take through life.

He also spends a considerable amount of his free time writing—everything from fiction and nonfiction to clinical, legal, and criminological works. Much of his more serious writing focuses on justice reform and developing more thoughtful approaches to addiction and mental illness, particularly where behavioral health and the criminal justice system intersect.

At heart, Pat is fairly old-school. He likes fly rods, campfires, cast iron, good food, cigars, and people with interesting stories. He still carries a bit of a pioneer spirit and a basic belief that people are rarely defined solely by the worst thing they have ever done.

A Bit About Mr Potter-

Patrick Potter has spent more than three decades working at the intersection of behavioral health, addiction recovery, crisis management, and complex case intervention. Sober since 1994, his own experience in long-term recovery has remained an important part of how he understands individuals and families navigating addiction, mental illness, and crisis.

He is the founder of Potter & Co. Global Crisis Management, Bunkhouse Recovery Ranch, and the American Equine Therapy Trainers Association (AETTA). His professional work combines criminology, forensic psychology, addiction counseling, and practical case management to develop highly individualized solutions for complicated behavioral health situations.

Pat is particularly known for building multidisciplinary teams around individuals whose psychiatric, substance-use, medical, and family needs overlap. His approach is straightforward: understand what is actually driving the behavior, put the right professionals in the room, and create enough structure and accountability to give recovery a genuine chance to take hold.
